Double Feature

Created: September 2020

In my junior year at FIT, I took a photo styling class and embarked on a project I called "Seeing Double." Using colored light bulbs, I created a series of self-portraits that manipulated the dimensions and shadows of my small Williamsburg apartment. This project was completed during the COVID pandemic, a time of confusion in my life. Against my parents' wishes, I had returned to New York to find my first apartment and was struggling to find my place in the world. After earning my associate's degree in Fashion Design, I transferred to FIT's Fabric Styling program, questioning my place in the fashion industry. The two parallels in my project represent the person I thought I wanted to be and the person I was becoming, with the glitches and static symbolizing the noise of the outside world and the challenges of growing up, especially in a world confined to digital interaction.
